Gin & Tonic

The GT is a simple and perfectly mixed drink that has stood the test of time. Even though we're not entirely sure of the exact story of its origin, we do know that gin was drunk for medicinal purposes from the 1600s and to prevent malaria before that.

Tonic grew in popularity in the British colonies, especially in India. Schweppes cemented this when they launched their first tonic in 1870. They branded it Indian Tonic Water, and since the wealthier people drank massive amounts of gin in Raj it has been accepted that the gin and tonic emerged here, in part to ward off malaria.
